Going Home, Again. Adirondack Railroad 3573 was only making a brief visit the area when it was stopped at Lake Junction in Wharton, New Jersey on the evening of Wednesday, November 17, 2021. After starting its career as Canadian National Railway Company 2573 (M420, 12/1976), it spent a decade with the Morristown and Erie Railway, the railroad that will pick it up shortly for the next step of its journey to the Adirondack Railroad in Utica, New York. Within the past week, it departed its most recent home on the former "Bel-Del" Railroad with Delaware River Railroad Excursions/The New York Susquehanna & Western Technical & Historical Society. Once in Utica, it will join other Montreal Locomotive Works products in tourist service.
New York state has the largest number of ALCO diesel locomotives working in everyday service. Here are some of them. Soon I hope to chronicle all of them.
