Railmen For Children 2021, Marine Corps. On Friday, December 3, 2021, consecutively numbered Bombardier ALP-45DPs 4504 and 4505 power the Railmen For Children train over the Passaic River in Newark, New Jersey on the return to Hoboken Terminal. NJTR 4504 features not only a wreath, but a banner that reads "NJ Transit Salutes The Marine Corps. In service to America." with USMC and NJT logos. Every year, some kind of "special" engines are used for the R4C train. But the while the engines are for the railfans, the train is for the children. Railmen for Children was created close to 40 years ago by NJ TRANSIT conductors and train engineers who are represented by the United Transportation Union and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. What began by collecting spare change in an empty five-gallon water cooler from personnel working at Hoboken Terminal has evolved into a decades long organized effort to bring holiday cheer to children in the community. While the event is in December, the work goes on all year long. The USMC banner on the engine is one of several different special recognitions recently added by NJ Transit ahead of the upcoming 2021 Army-Navy Game being held at Met Life Stadium.
