The Modern Day Baldwin Factory. Recently the centerpiece of the SMS Lines employee Christmas Party at the Logan Township, facility, SLRS 304 Baldwin S12 (née-MGA 415, 7/1953) made an appearance outdoors on the evening of Tuesday, December 21, 2021. The unit last operated for SMS approximately a decade ago in its most recent Erie Mining Corporation paint scheme. It had been sidelined until efforts began to restore it to the operating fleet, culminating in the Reading style paint scheme being applied. Former Pennsylvania Railroad SLRS 9069 (DS-4-4-1000, 4/1949), the last surviving PRR Baldwin, is coupled to SLRS 304, and is a mainstay of the Logan Township operation. SMS Lines has a significant number of Baldwin engines operating at its various properties.
