Brightliners. On Sunday, December 26, 2021, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority - MTA/ New York Transit Museum operated the second "Farewell To The R-32s" special, as seen at the West 4th Street Station. Built by Budd in 1964, these cars were distinctive from previous NYC subway cars because of their stainless steel exterior, whereas previous cars had been painted. After 58 years of service, a series of retirement runs have been scheduled, and a number of period appropriate decorations have been added to the cars. All for the same fare as any other subway ride! 2 more Sunday of operations are scheduled.
