Remarks & Notes
On April 5,1997 the Washington Corp.owner of the Montana Rail Link(MRL) purchased 1300 miles of the old Milwaukee Road RR owned by CPR in the states and started the IMRL. In Montana they used to say that MRL stood for "MILWAUKEE ROAD LIVES." I asked what IMRL stood for and I was told it was IOWA/ILLINOIS-MINNESOTA/MISSOURI RAIL LINK or the I&M RAIL LINK. Before start up the MRL sent 23 locomotives to the new RR by way of NRE in Silvis.......on the night of April 4 I was over at NRE gathering up all 23 locos with the help of NRE employee's.....at the behest of my new boss I needed to bring all 23 over to Nahant from Silvis before midnight then catch a flight to the Twin Cities in a snow storm and come out with the first train as they expected trouble with the CP crews at St.Paul. It was so sad that before midnight we were all CP people and after we became the enemy......UNION versus NON-UNON! Some how we all made it work and the IMRL lasted five years before the DME people purchased the IMRL and it became the IOWA CHICAGO and EASTERN(ICE).
