Remarks & Notes

KCS 2919, a 48 year old GP40-2LW, idles away at the Meridian yard on this cold January morning. 2919 began life as CN 9496 in September of 1974. The unit was on CN until the mid 90's when KCS bought a fleet of the 4 axle Canadian Cab units. They were rebuilt and CN 9496 became KCS 4751. During the rebuilding, the unit had dynamic brakes added, headlight relocated to the top center of the cab, a Pyle GyraLite on the nose, and ditch lights. As well as a clean coat of KCS grey paint with yellow stripes. In 2007, the unit was renumbered to 2919. In 2017, the unit again had a small rebuild and is one of the few Canadian Cab units on the KCS roster to get air conditioning added. Also during this most recent rebuild, the unit had PTC and other small upgrades made to the interior of the cab, as well as a fresh coat of the Southern Belle Paint scheme.
