The morning’s rain has let up just in time for BNSF Railway train U-SBDSDG1-14M (a 50-car unit military train heading from San Bernardino to San Diego) to pass through town without having to activate the windshield wipers (although there is a tsunami watch this morning as well, thanks to an undersea volcanic eruption near Bali, so while running along the Pacific on its way to San Diego, it might – but won't – get wet), crossing from Track 1 to Track 2 as it transitions from Metrolink’s Olive Sub to Metrolink’s Orange Sub at CP Maple. (Are all of Metrolink’s subdivisions named after fruits? No, they are not. Just these two are.) Considering this train departed San Bernardino, about 45 miles to the east, it is already 11 hours 23 minutes behind schedule. And, it had to change crews already, too, at Esperanza, just 35 miles into their trip. Also, somehow a fifth engine was added to the consist, and the BNSF computer only showed four! Passing through Orange, California, on January 15, 2022, are BNSF ET44C4 3995, BNSF ES44AC 5962 (the locomotive that mysteriously showed up on the train, BNSF ES44DC 7593, Union Pacific ES44AC 8117 and UP AC4400CW 5835.
