BNSF Railway’s 3rd La Mirada local (symbolled R-CAL0081-171) accelerated out of Basta, just two miles west of the Fullerton passenger station, after stopping for heavy traffic ahead of it on the railway’s San Bernardino Sub. Unfortunately, the engineer forgot to turn on his headlight and ditch lights as he was getting underway – presumably one of the many eastbound passenger trains he met on the way back to the La Mirada Yard alerted him to this. BNSF GP60Ms 142 (ex-BNSF 159; née-ATSF 159) and 149 (ex-ATSF 149) should have no problem hauling their 5-car train. (Fullerton, California – January 17, 2022)
