AMTK 264 leads the westbound North Coast Hiawatha which is stopped at Baring, WA siding for an eastbound BN freight with caboose BN 10597 bringing up the rear. The Amtrak head end crew was on the ground inspecting the freight, while the BN conductor gives a wave in a much friendlier era of railroading. My memory is the power on the train included E units for steam and as fuel tenders to support the newer F40PHs and the older passenger cars.
With two sections of the Empire Builder, the Coast Starlight, Seattle, the Cascade Mountains, Columbia Valley and Puget Sound, Washington state offers rail buffs plenty of variety and beauty.
