As railfans and townfolk alike enjoy the beautiful afternoon sunshine, CSX I143, an intermodal originating out of Osborn Yard in Louisville, KY tries staying ahead of the hotshot I025 on the final 50 mile leg of its journey to Jacksonville.
I had stopped in Folkston for about an hour to eat lunch while travelling back home from an early weekend vacation in Florida. Once a very busy area with over 70 daily trains combined with the fact the town is in between a small strip of the CSX system where two subdivisions merge into one before breaking off again (known as the "Folkston Funnel"), it was a must-go destination for railfans up until the mid-2010s. However, the purchase of the A-Line by FDOT in 2014 coupled with PSR reduced this number to only about 20 daily trains excluding bulk commodity trains. Nevertheless, it's still one of the most popular spots to railfan in the Southeastern US, even as a shell of its former self.
