Four-fifths of St. Maries River Railroad’s original roster sits outside in the sun at St. Maries, Idaho on September 27, 2021. STMA has three EMD GP9s, Nos. 101-103, with 102 presently out of service and inside the shop. On the right are the two EMD SW1200s, Nos. 501 and 502. All five units were bought from the Milwaukee Road at the time of the STMA’s startup when the Milwaukee retreated from the west in 1980. That single-chime on No. 501 will take you back to another time!
