Every ten years or so, AARPCO charters some sort of "rare mileage" trip in Florida. For 2022, they chose the US Sugar operations which might seem new to many, based on my own observations of social commentary, but the USSC/SCFE ops have been around for quite some time....it's that dandy new steam locomotive that has, shall we say, put the cane fields on the map? Today's trip is covering some very rare mileage indeed, retracing the route of the TRAINS magazine charter in January out to Okeelanta. Not far from this spot, the line to the other sugar mill diverges to the south and the mainline keeps heading north as the Fort Pierce Subdivision aka "K-Branch".
