| SD18
One of only 54 SD18s built for domestic use... This SD18 soldiers on in shortline service in South Haven, Kansas. Built in 1963 and riding on Alco trucks this monster was designed for slow speed mountain railroading. With a continuous tractive effort of over 67k Ilbs this model was ideal for the twisting mountain mountain coal hauling C&O. In later years the unit was regulated to yard and drag service in Kentucky. Since its days with the Chessie it has bounced around to various shortline operators. |
