A former Soo Line business car, built in 1921, brings up the markers (in this case, old school marker lights) as Amtrak San Diegan 578 rushes through the city of Orange on its way from Los Angeles to San Diego. This car’s origins are a bit murky, but it is owned by the San Diego Financial Corporation (owner of San Diego Trust and Savings Company, and then owned by Kennebec Financial Corporation of San Diego when SDFC was merged with First Interstate Bank of California) and, while it is painted in Soo markings, it carries the name of the Santa Fe Railway’s first president, Cyrus K. Holliday. This car, still painted this way, is still in service occasionally today. (Orange, California – May 1989)
