“Prodigal Son” UBHF brings 55 empty cement hoppers destined for the Lehigh plant in Union Bridge east through Middleburg. Today’s power includes a new addition to the Maryland Midland fleet, GP40 BAYL 3065, acquired from sister G&W property, Bay Line Railroad. But, having begun life as WM 3798, it’s no stranger to these rails. Unlike the original WM order, however, BAYL 3065 is now sans dynamics, therefore coming down off the mountain it’s relegated to the fourth position in the locomotive consist.
Alhough similar to the 06/16/22 photograph 805473, this was shot from the vantage point of the “ruins” of the coal trestle at the Donald Six Company. More than just a feed mill, for many years Donald Six Co. was a one-stop farm supply house, dealing in feed, coal, fuel, lumber and other building products. Although the superstructure of the coal trestle is now history, the stone and concrete piers remain intact.
