As far as is known, there were hardly any freight-only trains on the Brig-Furka-Disentis Railway (BFD) and its successor, the Furka-Oberalp Railway (FO, from 1926). In most cases, some freight cars were added to the regular passenger trains. However, since the Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke (DFB) has renovated several of its service cars as historic freight cars of the FO, the BVZ or the Schöllenenbahn over the last years, this nice freight train was pulled over the Furka pass for photo purposes. The HG 3/4 # 9, labeled as "BFD 9" (Brig-Furka-Disentis-Bahn number 9), crosses with the train the 36 meter long and 17 meter high Steffenbach bridge between Realp and Tiefenbach, at a gradient of 11.0 %. The special bascule bridge was built in 1925 and is retracted onto the abutments or folded down onto the sides of the ravine each autumn so that avalanches cannot tear it away. From about october to june the line was and is closed.
