Sunrise glint at City Junction. Just moments after the sun made its appearance above the hills to the east, Western Maryland 1309 begins her spirited charge up the hill out of Cumberland, passing City Junction (MP 166.8), bound for Frostburg. On this day, the big H-6 Class articulated Mallet was hauling a string of coal hoppers much as she would have done during her short career on the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad in the early 1950s. This image was created during a November, 2022 photo shoot organized by Trains Magazine and ably led by Kevin Gilliam and Michael Summers.
