Playing out a scene that has occurred countless times since coal began to move across Nebraska on the former Chicago, Burlington & Quincy, two trains meet on double track just west of Grand Island. The at-grade crossing of the Union Pacific's Overland Route was eliminated back in the 1990's with the construction of a flyover. Even still, the single track through town creates a bottleneck for the BNSF, resulting in trains backing up in either direction. Having waited it's turn, a train of empties has begun to slowly creep into town as the last of a fleet of loaded trains approaches, heading west toward Alliance.
