Remarks & Notes
Sunset Trip. On its final northbound run of the day, MTA NYCT 9069 leads the train into the portal at 135th Street. While the land drops low into the Harlem Valley, the viaduct was constructed to keep the train at almost the same level across. The sunset provides a nice glow around the scene. The Final Trips of the 2022 MTA NYCT Subway/NY Transit Museum Holiday Train. A new experience was created for the 2022 Metropolitan Transportation Authority - MTA NYCT Subway/New York Transit Museum, as for the first time a repainted 10-car train of IRT (Interborough Rapid Transit/A Division/Numbered Line) was operated for this event. The train made 4 round trips between Chambers Street and 137 Street-City College, and there was no extra charge for taking a ride. The cars represent a few contacts of similar cars built by St. Louis Car Company-GSI between 1962-1964, and were all retired from active service by the end of 2003. Enhancing the variety of the experience, the 5 “sets” of cars (4 married pairs and 1 set of 2 single cars) were repainted into 5 different paint schemes that the cars wore over their 40 year careers. From the very bright and long gone 1964-54 World’s Fair Robin’s Egg blue and white to the more recent “Gunn Red” Redbirds, this train was indeed of many colors. On Sunday, December 18, 2022, the last of the four weeks of this special train operating, the crowds came out in force as they had for the previous weeks, showing that these holiday runs are as popular as ever. 9069-9068 Kale Green “Green Machines” (R-33) 9010-9011 Blue-And-Silver “Platinum Mist” (R-33) 9308-9307 “Robin's Egg” (R-33WFS) 9586-9587 “Gunn Red” Redbirds (R-36WF) 9016-9017 "Tartar Red” (R-33) The Final Trips of the 2022 MTA NYCT Subway/NY Transit Museum Holiday Train. A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
