In my mind, there’s hardly anything better than a few beers around a campfire on a crisp, snowy Montana evening along the Clark Fork and Montana Rail Link’s busy Fourth Subdivision. Friends Dave Gayer and Robert Edgar enjoy the warmth of the trackside fire as my brother Tom seeks a low angle for the quickly approaching BNSF train that is sending up beams of glowing light into the moist night air at Trout Creek on February 4, 2023.
