Montana Rail Link’s Laurel to Missoula manifest freight, simply called the LM, waits at the end of double track just west of Livingston, Montana, on September 23, 2002. Road power of a pair of EMD SD45s bracketing a SD45-2, is being helped with a manned point helper set of five more SD45/SD45-2 locomotives. That’s an impressive 28,800 horsepower up front that will surely test the tensile strength of knuckles and drawbars on a few freight cars as it pulls upgrade over Bozeman Pass.
