Remarks & Notes
Illinois Central 6256, an SD40-3 is shoving a loaded taconite pellet train onto the 1918-built Dock 6. This locomotive was built by GM Electro-Motive Division in LaGrange, Illinois in November 1976 as Burlington Northern 6757, an SD40-2. The train is loading taconite pellets onto M/V Indiana Harbor. The 989-foot vessel was built in 1979 in Surgeon Bay Wisconsin and coincidently is also EMD powered. Four 3500 horsepower EMD engines power this leviathan. It is very impressive to see these well-built machines still moving America, loading product on a dock built 105 years ago.
