Arriving at Los Angeles Union Station, appropriately enough on Track 11, is Amtrak train 11, the southbound Coast Starlight. On this trip, Amtrak had difficulty producing two locomotives for this train up in Seattle, so they commandeered a BNSF Railway locomotive to assist them: BNSF ES44C4 8119. As freight locomotives cannot operate at passenger speeds, it was a surprise that this train arrived on time, rolling into Los Angeles Union Station at 9:13 pm (21:13) – close enough to its scheduled 9:11 pm (21:11) arrival time to be considered on-time after a 1,377-mile trip! BNSF 8119 was paired with Amtrak ALC-42 308, pulling seven cars. (Los Angeles, California – June 1, 2023)
