Biscotasi & the Great Beyond - VIA's #186 speeds east across the Lake Biscotasi causeway after dropping paddlers and anglers at the flagstop here minutes before. Biscotasi is interconnected with a seemingly endless chain of lakes, rivers, and streams including the nearby Spanish Lake, headwaters for the West Branch of the Spanish River. This makes Bisco a popular launching point for long-distance paddlers of the Spanish River which connects with the East Branch at Forks, eventually emptying into Georgian Bay. Directly off the CP right-of-way, Sinker Creek, Forks, Sheahan and Pogamasing are also popular Spanish River launching points, only accessible by this very train which often carries canoes and days of supplies for the trip into the remote "Great Beyond" here in beautiful northern Ontario.
