Kansas Prairie Dawn. Just minutes after sunrise, an Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe local makes its way across the Kansas prairie east of Abilene, with a few passengers, some small freight items, newspapers and the mail.

This image was captured during a September, 2023 photo shoot organized by Dak Dillon Photography on the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad, which operates on former Rock Island trackage between Abilene and the nearby town of Enterprise. This photo shoot featured Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe #3415, a 150 ton Baldwin Pacific built in 1919. Restored for tourist operations back in 2009, the locomotive is in her final year of service before she'll require a 1,472 Service Day Inspection.
