Clean Cab To Come. New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad 529 (ex-AMTK 138, exx-AMTK 1338, exxx-PC 5536, née-NH 529, RS-3, Alco, 1950) is the last remaining original New Haven RS-3. It arrived at the Railroad Museum of New England (RMNE) in Thomaston, Connecticut in 1996 after a post retirement stay on the line at the Valley Railroad. During the decade that it operated, it became synonymous with this former New Haven Railroad line. The Restoration of New Haven Locomotive 529 kicked off just under 2 years ago in 2021, and has made both appreciable tactile and fundraising progress. A visit to the Thomaston Shop of the Naugatuck Railroad on Monday, October 9, 2023 found NH/NAUG 529 inside as the work to repair 529’s Alco 244 diesel engine has started under "Phase 2" of the project.
