D&RGW 473 storms through Granite Point and towards Rockwood, CO with a long mixed train. Sister K-28 locomotive #476 is working as a mid-train helper to move this large fifteen car train upgrade to Silverton. This was a recreated mid-train helper photo freight put on by the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad to honor the 100th Anniversary of these K-28 locomotives. After 100 years of continuous service on the Rio Grande narrow gauge lines, 473 and 476 are still at work pulling tourist trains to on the Silverton Branch. Thanks to the dedicated crews and employees of the D&S who worked overtime to pull off this event. This was the first mid-train helper to operate to Silverton since July 1958, and featured renumbered, repainted, and relettered equipment authentic to these operations.
