Passengers are leaving the railcar # 1 of the cogwheel railway Principe-Granarolo in Genova, in the Salita San Rocco stop. The Principe-Granarolo rack railroad is a means of public transportation in Genoa, Italy, operated by the AMT (Azienda Mobilità e Trasporti Genova S.p.A), and runs every 20 to 30 minutes during the day. Opened in 1901, the 1200-millimetre gauge line is 1.13 kilometers long and covers a height difference of 194 meters. The railcar travels at a speed of 8 km/h. A special feature for a rack railroad is the Abt turnout, which allowed trains to cross without having to change points. For this, the railcars had to be equipped with asymmetrical wheelsets and the upper edge of the rack was level with the top of the rails. The car bodies were also adapted to the average gradient, similar to funicular railcars.
