Denver & Rio Grande Western #473 and #476 thunder ahead at Goblin's Fire on the Silverton Branch on October 16, 2023. Built in 1923 by the American Locomotive Company, the K-28 locomotives, also known as the Sport Models, were popular among Rio Grande crews. Today in addition to #473 and #476, #478 also resides at the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in Durango, CO awaiting restoration to operative condition. rth.
