Sanford Terminal.
One of Amtrak's unique operations is the Auto Train, which runs overnight non-stop from Lorton, VA (outside Washington, DC) to Sanford, FL (outside Orlando) and allows passengers to bring their cars on the trip! Here we have an aerial view of the Sanford terminal, including the passenger station at top right, the autorack unloading tracks top center, and locomotive and Superliner servicing facilities at left. Train 53(22), the southbound Auto Train, arrived that morning and B32-8WH no. 511 just finished switching the autoracks a few minutes prior. Interestingly there were also two SunRail cab cars mixed into the process; no.s 2006 and 2008.
