| "Allegra" ABe 8/12 # 3515 of the Rhaetian Railway with train 4629 of the line R19 from St.Moritz to Tirano is rounding the curve north of Ospizio Bernina. In the past, very large snowdrifts have formed here when there is a lot of snow. Now several so-called cross scouring boards (Kreuzkolktafeln in german) have been erected above the route. In contrast to drift fences, cross scour boards do not hold back the snow, but ensure better snow distribution and thus prevent the formation of large snow accumulations and cornices that extend to the tracks. The effect is quite convincing. |
