Remarks & Notes
SD40-3: Amid wintry weather, NS H76 arrives at Manville on Norfolk Southern Lehigh Line Track #1 to interchange cars at Manville Yard. NS 6400 was the first SD40-3 rebuild done by Norfolk Southern’s Altoona Shops. The unit was originally SD40-2 BN 8087 under Burlington Northern, then was BNSF 8087 under BNSF, before going to Norfolk Southern as NS 3557. In October 2021, it was rebuilt with an Admiral Cab to become SD40-3 NS 6400. As is the case with many Norfolk Southern rebuilt locomotives, NS 6400 retained its original horn in the rebuild process: a Nathan K3LA, atypical for Norfolk Southern. Behind the leader is SD40-2 NS 3364 (formerly CR 6418 under Conrail).
