Streetcar Named Desire In Times Square. Outfitted with a custom "Good Morning America" sign in addition to the traditional destinations, New Orleans Public Service car 850 (Perley A. Thomas, 1922) was about to appear on that show on April 10, 2007. This streetcar, which has been part of The Shore Line Trolley Museum collection since 1964 when the Canal Street Line was discontinued and it was deemed surplus by NOPS after spending 40 years operating on the famous lines of New Orleans, Louisiana. The car is sitting on a trailer 44 Street between Broadway and 6 Avenue outside of the GMA Studio near Times Square in New York, NY while touring the United States to promote tourism in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Although for years the city had trended towards eliminating these cars in favor of buses, the tide has turned and today there are several streetcar lines in New Orleans, including the St. Charles Line (oldest continuously operating street railway system in the world), Canal Street Line (restored), and Riverfront Line (new construction).
