Remarks & Notes
The St. Paul to Kansas City daily freight train had some unusual motors in the consist. A pair of CP hydrogen locomotives are dead in tow. Each locomotive is painted in a unique paint scheme for the hydrogen program. The #1001 is a home-built unit, converted SD40-2F, and is classified as a H20EL for “hydrogen zero-emissions locomotive." I was surprised to see them in the US, cause alot of the funding and based camp for this program is coming out of Alberta, but the units were on their way to KC for a gathering. Here, the 14,000 ton train rounds the curve at Reno on the CP Marquette Sub. The #1001 is ex-CM&Q 9024
