The Buffalo Maritime Center’s replica Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief is seen docked at the Shattemuc Yacht Club in Ossining, New York, as a northbound Metro-North Railroad Poughkeepsie train, with a new Siemens SC-42DM Charger leading, heads up the Hudson Line in the background on October 24th, 2025. The Seneca Chief traveled from Buffalo to New York City over the course of 33 days in celebration of the Erie Canal’s Bicentennial, officially observed on October 26th, 2025, with Ossining serving as the last stop along its commemorative voyage before reaching NYC. Built as a full-sized replica of the 1825 original, the boat was constructed by hundreds of volunteers using traditional boatbuilding techniques.
