Remarks & Notes
In the 1970s a lot of locomotives ended their time on the planet at Naporano Iron & Metal in Newark NJ. This is all that is left of Norfolk & Western C424 #421 two days before New Years. The engine had started life in March of 1964 on the Wabash, becoming an N&W unit seven months later in the Nickel Plate/Wabash/N&W merger. For some unknown reason, this cab was kept intact for some years later, for sale.

These are engines that are either already scrapped, are in deadlines, or they're in severe danger of being scrapped. Not everything can be preserved.

Pictures of things often unseen in the world of railroading. Interesting equipment, operations, and people that help the railroad go around.
