It's 4:30 PM on Christmas Eve, and traffic has been slow on the former Great Northern Mainline as BNSF has tied down as many trains as possible. However, this westbound autorack job is still burnishing the high iron as the crew hustles home towards Whitefish about 50 miles away. Across the tracks to the north the Izaak Walton Inn, built in 1939 by the GN, is full of holiday revelers enjoying the splendid isolation that is the Northern Rockies in winter.....not to mention the splendid view for those lucky enough to have a trackside room!
