| After picking up interchange from UP a pair of beautiful C-628s trundle back past the late great tower. This was about their only running forays away from the yard. We used to call the places under the freeway bridges to the left "Hobo Union Terminal". The helpful operator in the tower used to let me sit with him in a air conditioned comfort, swilling ice tea until a train appeared. Of course we had the lineup to avoid false alarms. It don't get much better than that. |
