Cog in the Fog. Is it 1909 or 2009? For most of the 140 years of its operating life, not much has changed on the Mt. Washington Cog Railway. Four of the six remaining steamers date back to the 1880s and only one was built after 1908. Yes, the coaches have gotten a tad larger and the colors are brighter, but from this distance, and in B&W, there's not much about this image that says 21st century. And the old "Rockpile" (Mt. Washington) hasn't changed much either. The upper reaches of the mountain are still a craggy boulder field that is enshrouded in fog about 60% of the time.
