On the Hegang Coal Railway in northeastern China, an afternoon passenger train creates a traffic jam as it steams through a busy level crossing. The steam in the foreground is from a food vendor's dumpling stove. In 2005, most of Hegang's coal operations were handled by electric motors, but steam still powered the passenger trains and a few coal trains.
