The Western Pacific heritage unit leads the Southern Pacific heritage unit and one of the Salt Lake City Olympic units with a 12,000 foot long intermodal train at Cajon Summit. Was at home 65 miles away, with no intent to chase this train, when I saw posts that it was on its way. Heard that it had left Barstow (42 miles away from Summit) and thought that if I was a real railfan, I would get out there. Next thing I knew I was in the car trying to make up the train's 23 mile headstart. I won.
