The big oil-burning Schenectady-built Alco leaves Foix in southern France with an excursion bound for Ussat-les- Bains. Several hundred 141Rs were supplied by various American builders to France after the war as part of the Marshall Plan. Their rugged power and simplicity meant they were the mainstay of the SNCF steam fleet right until the end. Several are preserved. |
