To the right of the lead unit was the Auburn siding, which ran between Donahue Drive & Gay Street. Several years before this photo, the east end of the siding was removed to a point 300 feet in front of GA 6010 and made westward opening only. At the rear of GA 6010, the train order semaphore Armstrong connecting rods were routed under the main and siding tracks and the train order signal stood to the extreme right of the photo. Just above the bottom unit stood an absolute eastward signal and a permissive westward signal, at the former location of the east siding switch. Roughly 10 years before this photo, I routinely rode my bike to the depot to assist the agent in his daily duties!!!!
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
