Remarks & Notes
NdeM QR-1 class 4-8-4 3051 slowly backs past a track gang as she cuts herself into a diesel-powered northbound freight train at Tula. Tula was the helper station situated approximately 80 km north of Mexico City. By 1966 only the standard gauge 4-8-4s and narrow gauge 2-8-0s were still in regular service on the NdeM. The friendly section crew offered this gringo "kid" some of their lunch but he stupidly refused their generous offer. What I wouldn't give to have lunch with these men today with a 4-8-4 panting in the background!
