CP Hick can be a busy place, but it can't get much busier than five moving trains at once. From farthest to nearest:
1. Westbound Canadian Pacific trackage rights auto rack train moving off NS Chicago Line to IHB Gibson Yard connector, bound for Bensenville over the IHB; 2. Eastbound Amtrak #350, the morning Wolverine, 3. Westbound NS intermodal freight; 4. NS hot bottle train being delivered from ArcelerMittal's Riverdale (IL) facility to the East Chicago complex; and 5. An ArcelerMittal utility scrap train moving back into the complex.
I was already pretty fired up to be capturing four trains all moving at once , moments earlier, when one ArcelorMittal light switcher moved off frame, only to be replaced by the two NS trains, the intramodal one appearing just at the last possible moment. The Amtrak and NS intermodal are both moving at a pretty good clip, while the other three are creeping.
There are four railroads' lines represented here as well. The NS Chicago Line is the busy thoroughfare to upper left. The IHB crosses in the center-right of the frame to access their Lake Front Yard. ArcelorMittal's extensive steel operation begins to the lower right, and the Canadian National (EJ&E)'s industrial branch sneaks through the whole fray running lower right to upper left.
