The Far Side of the World... With a wave from Fireman S.L. Fielding, the West Virginia Central's Cheat Mtn Salamander passes the old Western Maryland Railway watchman shanty guarding the entrance to Big Cut. The passenger train had descended to the mountain overlook near Milepost 90 on the "Far Side" of Big Cut minutes earlier, before returning up the steep 3% grade.
