Remarks & Notes
Like most railroads the Deseret Ry runs its coal trains in all weather; hot, or cold, snowing or raining, several days a week. Did I mention cold? This picture was taken at 12:30PM and the temperature was 5 degrees below zero, up from an overnight low of somewhere south of 20 below. I doubt if it ever made it above zero today out here on the uplands of eastern Utah. This is the eastbound empty train just a couple of miles from the Bonanza Power Plant which is the destination of every Deseret Ry. train. Most of Bonanza’s power is sold to cities in southern California.
