Back in 2009 this was still a common sight in the White Mountains. The twin ex CN FP9s had been standard power since 1995 hauling the Conway Scenic's tourist trains from this depot north and west along former B&M and MEC rails to Crawford Notch and beyond. However, within less than a year they would be gone, on to a new career hauling the Pan Am business train around New England. Veteran Portland Terminal Alco S4 1055 to the left had also been a staple on the CWSR roster for more than three decades but soon would be moving on to a new career polishing the former MEC Calais Branch rails out of Ellsworth, ME for a new start-up tourist operation. The splendid 1874 Victorian depot in a Russian Revival influence was built by B&M predecessor Portland, Great Falls and Conway. While the power burnishing the rails behind her may change, the splendid structure seems timeless...
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
