South Amboy was once a bustling railroad town which included a busy station, large freight yard, engine terminal, shortline, and junction of two electrified main lines. Now all that remains is the double-tracked NJT North Jersey Coast Line and junction with Conrail's Amboy Secondary, the Church Running Track, and modern high-level platform station seen in the distance. Here, weekly Conrail local SA31 crosses John St. on its way to Lakewood. The building on the left side of the image is the former Raritan River Railroad headquarters and offices.
