Terra Alta, WV 10/7/2010 - An image of a bygone era of railroading, 56 "pistol grip" interlocking levers once controlled an extensive array of switches and signals at the summit of Cranberry Grade on the former B&O Mountain Subdivision between Cumberland, MD and Grafton, WV. The tower was closed more than two decades before, but in 2010, it still served a vital purpose, it's interlocking mechanisms remotely controlling a B&O CPL signal to the west of the tower. The tower was left standing so that one lever could remain in its proper position, providing power to the signal. Once work was done to replace the signal and rewire the electronics involved, the tower was demonlished in 2011.
